Phoenix Gallery Behind Doors Performance

Emily Granger and I were invited to perform as part of the Phoenix Gallery’s Behind Doors series. It was wonderful to get the chance to perform together in these strange times. We prepared two works, Debussy’s gorgeous Danse sacrée et profane, and a new work by me, Beachscapes II. This work was written in response to Debussy’s work and draws from the harmonic palette and musical motifs while wrapping it all up in a kind of ‘liquefied’ texture containing semi-improvised piano and harp parts, a lo-fi cassette tape loop of ocean recordings and warm synthesiser tones. All of these sounds run through lush reverb and granular guitar fx pedals. Check out our performance below.
