Nocturnal Interludes
Nocturnal Interludes was created specifically to be interspersed between solo guitar performances in Andrew Blanch's Nocturnal program, which was featured as part of the Moonbird Festival on King Island, Tasmania, from April 16 to 23, 2023, and presented by the Bowerbird Collective. These four short electronic music pieces are inspired by the night and reflect upon brief guitar fragments found in Benjamin Britten's Nocturnal After John Dowland, Op. 70. Echoes of Britten's masterpiece can be heard throughout the interludes, woven into a lush dreamscape that combines field recordings, synthesizers, electric and acoustic guitar, and piano.
